Cornery Popcorn Gallery: Alex's Take

Popcorn.

Everyone's favourite snack, any time.

Gourmet premium popcorn are the craze nowadays. They comes with many different kind of flavours and they are really tasty.

The latest "Popcorn Kid in the House" is Cornery, Popcorn Gallery, a Singaporean gourmet premium popcorn outlet.

Currently, there are two outlets, first in Low Yat Plaza and the second is in KL Festival City, Setapak with the third opening soon in Cheras Sentral soon.

The second outlet was launched last Sunday and Foodhunterz were there to have a check on these premium popcorn on an invitation by Cornery Popcorn Gallery.

Still, to make sure that our review would be unbiased, we didn't announced our presence until after we experience everything.

The staff at the counter was more than happy to let me try each and every flavour that they have before I placed my order.

These popcorn sure tasted different compare to the other popcorn that I have came across. I got to know afterward that instead of using oil to make the popcorn, they actually use hot air to pop the popcorn. And the result are super popcorn that taste different from the others.

Here is a video of how the popcorn were popped using hot air.

Another PLUS for Cornery popcorn is the open kitchen concept where you could actually see how these popcorn are made. From popping the popcorn to adding the flavours and packing/sealing them into the air-tight bags. All popcorn are freshly made, everyday.

Their best selling flavours are butterscotch flavour, which are highly recommended but don't jump into any conclusion. The other flavours are great as well. My personal favourite would be the chocolate as they actually use dark chocolate for the flavour. As a dark chocolate lover, it got my highest recommendation.

Black sesame flavour and caramel is slightly toward the salty while banana (something very different) and green tea are particularly sweet. Grape soda and peanut were a surprise as well as we never know that it could taste so good with popcorn.

More flavours coming soon!

Another plus point for Cornery is how they actually let you mix the flavours in the pack that you purchase. (limited to Regular or Large). Regular let you mix 2 flavours while Large would let you mix 3 flavours together.

Currently, you can find Cornery at the following:
Plaza LowYat, Lot LG-032B
KL Festival City, Lot GK-08
Cheras Sentral, Lot 700-BF-35

Aaron Cafe @ Taman Melawis, Klang

This "cafe" is not your ordinary cafe. It does serve coffee but the main attraction here is not the coffee.

Aaron Cafe is more of a little restaurant but on the menu, there are only one general item, Char Kueh Teow or stir-fried ricecake strip. It is more popular among the older generation of Klang (I was introduced to this place by an ex-colleague's boss) but that does not means the younger generation don't know about it.

For me, once I tried it, I always tried to come back for more.

If you guys remember about the unnamed shop that served loh yee mee and red wine misua that was featured here in FoodHuntz (link here), Aaron Cafe is basically on the same row of shop, except that it is on the other side.

The whole shop consist of the boss and his two helpers.

As with any other char kueh teow shop, the boss allow you to choose how your meal is to be cook with. Basic ingredients includes prawns, cockles, bean sprouts, eggs and Chinese chives. You can tell the boss which ingredient you want and which ingredient you don't want and he would prepare it as how you wanted. Also, you can ask for different level of spiciness.

I usually ask for a plate without cockles and prawns and here is a look of my meal on my latest visit to Aaron Cafe.

While it maybe more "greasy" than usual, it is really yummy. I don't recommend you to come for it everyday but once in a while, it is definitely worth the visit.

Daothiam, Central Hat Yai, Thailand

Sorry guys for lack of updates.

Anyway, here is one from my recent trip to Hat Yai, Thailand. Remembering how I couldn't really find good breakfast on my first trip, I made an extra effort to search the internet for info. I came across the name of a restaurant that somehow got good recommendations from others and decided to try it out.

The name of the restaurant is Daothiam. It is located just across Odean Shopping Mall in Central Hat Yai, a must go place for street foods, shopping and stay.

Here is how the shop looks like from the front.

We went there for breakfast (actually more of a brunch as we woke up quite late) and there aren't many customers around. We sat at one part of the restaurant and in no time, the staff provide us with the menu. It may not be the friendliest restaurant here in Hat Yai, but it is definitely worth it.

Here is a look of the interior of the restaurant.

If you notice, there are alot of frames hanging around and if you look closely, they are frames of money notes from all over the world. Either the owner travel alot or they are given by customers who has been here before.

We ordered three dishes.

Chicken in Basil leaves with rice. The taste is pretty good and we love how they use the teriyaki sauce to cook the tender chicken. And the basil leaves gave us that extra nice taste.

We also ordered my favourite pineapple fried rice and it definitely taste better than those I tasted in Malaysia. What makes it different is the addition of crushed peanut and the sweetness from the locally grown pineapple.

Every meal in Thailand would not be complete without a bowl of Tom Yum soup. The one that was served here are slightly different from the other two that we tried but nevertheless, still very delicious. It is not as spicy as the other two but the taste are exquisite. We totally love the taste.

They also sell snacks but we didn't have the chance to try them. Maybe you can try and let us know how it taste like.

looks like gingerbread characters

Nevertheless, we totally recommend this place to anyone who is going to Hat Yai. They open from 0700 to 2200.
